NaNoWriMo - Writing Challenges

Terms and Conditions

Effective Date: April 17, 2026

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, submit content, or participate in writing challenges on NaNoWriMo. By using these features, you confirm that you meet this requirement. This does not mean we are an adult content platform, this means we are attempting not to berak ever more complex global legislations that restrict and remove youth from the internet.

2. User Content

You retain full ownership of any original content you submit to NaNoWriMo. However, by submitting content, you grant NaNoWriMo a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, adapt, publish, and promote your content in any format, including incorporation into commercial products such as books, anthologies, or digital media.

You agree that your content does not infringe on the rights of others, contain illegal material, or violate applicable laws.

3. Site Use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate your account if we believe you’ve breached these terms.

4. Community Fit and Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently remove any account at our sole discretion, without prior notice or explanation, if we believe a user does not align with the spirit, values, or goals of the NaNoWriMo community — even if no specific rule has been violated.

This includes (but is not limited to) behavior that is hostile, disruptive, manipulative, dishonest, or otherwise detrimental to the culture we aim to foster.

We are not obligated to provide warnings, appeals, or justifications, although we may do so at our discretion.

5. Intellectual Property

All NaNoWriMo branding, code, and platform features (excluding user content) are our property and may not be reused without permission.

6. No Guarantees

NaNoWriMo is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Your use of the platform is at your own risk.

7. Third-Party Rewards and Prizes

From time to time, NaNoWriMo may feature rewards, discounts, or prizes offered by third-party sponsors or partners. While we aim to work with reputable providers, NaNoWriMo is not responsible for the fulfillment, delivery, accuracy, or value of any rewards or prizes offered by third parties.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from your use of NaNoWriMo, including loss of content or interruption of access.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms at any time. If the changes are material, we will notify you through the site or via email. Continued use of the Service means you accept the updated Terms.

5. Account Deletion, Data Retention, and Backups

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting [email protected]. Upon request, we will delete your personal data and login credentials from our active systems, subject to legal, technical, or abuse-prevention requirements.
